A Year in Review T This past year Trini and I spent three months in the Philippines. We were privileged to travel with our immersion students. This was our third year to be with most of them. Immersion students are planning to serve as missionaries in the Philippines and are in training to do so. Pictured above Alison Loope is recording my story of how I met my wife and we are standing in the place where my wife and I first met. Gregg and the band did a series of concerts in Leyte and Cebu and in Luzon. We enjoyed traveling with the band for 11 concerts in a weeks time! It was a grueling schedule but very rewarding. Next Trini and I spent several weeks by ourselves and ministered to the bar girls in Olongapo City. We also prepared for the arrival of Gregg and the interns. The Interns are a ministry of SLAM or Students Living A Mission. SLAM is a department of G.O.D. International. The interns are young people desiring to affirm a missions call on their life. The internship provides this opportunity. Interns were truly challenged this year as they worked with unfortunate people at the dumpsite and with tribal people in the mountains and churches and girls sold into the sex industry. |
Pictured above are Four Boys in a Holding Cell We brought these boys some food and toothbrushes. They are in need of so much more. We are so safe and warm in our nation but in most of the world violence, suffering, and hopelessness are a constant. These four boys have no hope for a bright future without opportunity for education. They are in jail simply because they are surviving on the street in the only way they know how. I am certain that the church must leave the bourgeois mentality that has captured the present state of popular teaching. The church must remember that Christianity is not a progressive movement that finds its arrival by securing a safe world where comfort and luxury become spiritual goals. The church must return to caring for the poor and oppressed and to speaking openly about justice for all human beings. How can any of us value driving a luxury car while another human being lives without basic human rights? |
