Philippines 2006

Joel, Mike, and Trini visited the Preda Foundation to interview the founder and children’s rights worker Father Shay Cullen. Shay has posed as a pedophile in cooperation with local police and with the aid of a hidden cameraman in order to rescue children from those that traffick them in the sex industry. He also pursues the conviction of these persons. The Preda foundation is a beehive of activity. The foundation works with drug addicts, street children, girls that have been sold into the sex industry as young as 11 years old, and with the many Amerasian children fathered by American G.I's.The foundation is staffed by Filipinos that father Shay has touched with his ministry. Shay Cullen has been nominated twice for the Nobel Peace Prize. As an international figure for children’s rights and a down to earth man that works the seedy streets of the cities Shay possesses an honesty and drive to bring change to society. Shay accomplishes his task with the help of his Filipino staff that join hands with him in his efforts.

Shay has been instrumental in exposing entire crime rings involved in the trafficking of children. He was also instrumental in the closing down of the American bases in the Philippines. Since I once was a marine stationed in Cubi Pt. I am aware of the exploitation of the Filipina that was present due to the presence of the American Military. Our servicemen fathered and left behind multiplied thousands of Amerasian children. A few of them work for father Shay and are still looking for their fathers. During my time there (1975) my chaplain told me that I could not live a chaste Christian life in the Philippines so I should just have a good time and be careful. During our stay in the Philippines our officers encouraged a life of drunken debauchery. We were pleased to sit with Father Shay and interview him for a documentary we are producing, and utilize the interview as a teaching tool in our missions classes.
